Recanati is the birthplace of a famous Italian poet, Giacomo Leopardi (1798-1837).
In the 16th and 17th centuries Recanati was known thanks to its market and nowadays, both the streets and the buildings still have the feature of a trade city. In our time Recanati is a famous city thanks to Leopardi who spent here his life and studied , like under a bell glass, the classical works in his father’s library. Through his poetry he simply tried to express the feeling that happiness is just an illusion, a happiness he never had as a child.
In Palazzo Leopardi, where the poet was born and spent his life, you can see various manuscripts and visit the library itself.
