Lake Polverina has a surface of 66,60 hectares. The most interesting part of it is the area in which the river Chienti joins the lake and in which the white willow grows. This tree is one of the most interesting examples of this kind of vegetation in the province. On the right side of the lake there is a typical forest vegetation. The oasis is very important for the conservation of animals such as herons, night herons, cormorants, and great crested grebes.
